This one pours a very thick looking dark black color, with a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells like roasted and caramelized banana, sweet vanilla, milk chocolate, oaky barrel spice, and caramel.
This definitely leans on the sludgy and pastry end of the equation for Barreled Souls, probably because it’s a collaboration with Mortalis. There’s lots of banana and vanilla, but the graham cracker and the general heavy barrel character does help keep this from being overly sweet. There’s a very solid chocolatey and roasty base to the whole thing.
This is pretty thick, but not quite syrupy yet, with a great drinkability for high how the ABV is. It’s not very boozy at all.
I will always prefer the straight up barreled stylings of this brewery, but they do tend to do a good job when they dip their toes into the pastry pool.
