CrystAle can be described as a cross between an English barleywine and a Wee Heavy. It is very caramel and toffee-forward. his beer was aged for a year in Willett Bourbon barrels before being transferred to some fresh Willett Bourbon barrels for another year totaling 24 months and 18 days in barrel.

Poured from a small waxed bottle at fridge temp. Pours a very murky dark brown with quickly fizzling head. The nose is full of intense caramel, malts, vanilla, boozy bourbon, biscuits, and a slight nuttiness.
The taste is super boozy. The 17.6% ABV. definitely comes across. The problem at this ABV, at least for beer, is that many of the flavors become masked. After a few minutes of sipping, the flavors start to emerge as the palate gets used to the high ABV. Getting some hoppy bitterness, some toffee, licorice, malts, raisins, bourbon, and vanilla. Good beer, but not sure if it suits the high ABV.

Caramel and toffee, raisins and dark red plums, and a prominent bourbon barrel boozy nose on this one! Taste follows pretty closely with a dark fruity, subtle bitter hoppy, and a boozy brown liquor barrel finish. Although CrystAle featured brews have been described as a cross between an English Barleywine and a Wee Heavy, this one tasted more like an American BW to me...there was a touch of hoppy bitterness on the backend. This and the lack of sweetness upfront made this less enjoyable for me. Pretty good, but could use some time extended time in the bottle to tame the bitter bite at the end.
