Pouring a 2022 vintage bottle into my snifter at cellar temperature. Beer was purchased at the brewery and has been in my cellar since that date.
The beer pours a rich mahogany color, very dark with almost no light passing through my glass. A dense creamy head of 1.5 cm foams up and fades to a sturdy surface covering. Some bubbles rise to the surface in the center of my glass but the foam doesnt get refreshed.
Some clingy dense lattice forms when I take a sip or swirl the beer.
The aroma is plums and raisins with a good dose of bourbon and some brown sugar. A general fruitiness lingers in the background of the nose. Very mild fusol note and nothing in terms of hop character.
First sip reveals a smooth textured beer with very fine and mildly tingly carbonation. There is a little sticky coating on my palate when I take a sip each time. Beer feels the part of big old ale with each sip. I like it!
Flavor is on the sweeter side for certain. I get brown sugar and plums with a little cherry note too. There is definitely a little black peppery bite from booze but again no hop flavor. Hints of vanilla on the finish too. I dont get any warming on this one either and the beer drinks dangerously easy.
I believe that Wisdom (any variant) may be my favorite beer from Barreled Souls. This one is fantastic!
