Sampling a cellar temp 500 ml bottle poured into my snifter. Bottled on 3/17/2025 picked up as part of my bottle society stash at the brewery in August.
The beer pours a rich deep mahogany color and only faint light passes through edges of my glass, revealing some garnet highlights. A fizzy and rambunctious beige head foams up about 1 cm and fades rapidly to nothing before I am finished pouring the bottle. No lacing, more of a merlot "legs" when I swirl the glass or take a sip.
Aroma on this beer is malt driven and sort of sweet, I get toffee and brown sugar with a little sweet pipe tobacco and some rye whisky notes. A bit of fusol booze sneaks in as well. no hop character on the nose
First sip reveals a medium body and sticky textured beer with very mild , gentle and spacious carbonation.
Flavor is similar to the nose advertisements with lots of sweet malt. Brown sugar and toffee mixing with some sweet fruit, raisins is what I pick up. Again some rye whisky notes and peppery booze with only a little warming on the finish. Im not sure any hops were harmed in the making of this beer. Hop profile is absent.
Another very solid barrel aged barleywine from the crew in Saco, Maine. Would gladly drink this one again.
