we dont see many white ipa types around anymore, this style seems to have been dead for years now, so i was stoked to see this. always some debate about whether they were belgian yeast beers or just wheat based, this appears to be the latter, and it was real tasty, my first one i had in their taproom and one of my favorites, strong too, but sneaky strong, doesnt drink this big at all. neat recipe, really citrus forward and oddly approachable with only middle of the road bitterness, nice recipe and nice execution. deep honey color to this, not fully clear but still with a glow about it, a slow fading white head from the tap an inch high or close to it. the aroma is a little spicy up front from the hops, real northwestern right away, grounded by obvious wheat malt, a toasted depth to it but this doesnt come through as outwardly malty, grapefruit and tangerine and white grape notes, perhaps something a little high tone in the ferment, but this isnt belgian at all to me. the flavor follows, lots of fruity hops all through it, with the bitterness only hitting at the end, grapefruit for sure, meyer lemon freshness, and an herbal layer, light gin botanicals, and an off dry finish that runs a little long. the wheat is really flavorful in this, a little nutty, bready, and baked, supports both the hops and the well hidden alcohol very well, and it really smooths out the texture. nice frothy feel on this, high carbonation, somewhat summery, but also woodsy with these hops. clever brew in a style i really miss.
