big imperial stout here aged in dry fly whiskey barrels, neat beer, super refined and dialed in, lovely malt profile, smooth to drink, well hidden alcohol, wintery and cozy without being too intense, impressive. this is black, has some shine, and sports a short creamy looking thick tan head on top from the tap, tidy looking, not super viscous or leggy for its strength. the nose is charred oak, deep roasty malts, good black coffee, and light tobacco and whiskey. i get an almost irish stout dryness in the flavor, like there isnt a ton of middle malt richness to this, not super decadent or layered like that, its comfortable in this deep dark space without need for traditional balance and i think thats cool, some dark chocolate and cocoa character to it, espresso roast, and a lot of the oak. i love how it kind of all hits at once, fast finishing for a barrel aged stout to be sure, and its wood as much as whiskey which is cool. nice and mellow to sip on, good balancing bitterness late, full bodied but not insane, and clean on the ferment, nothing stressed or weird at all there. really solid brew, true to style, the quality of the whiskey comes through, but its a real good base stout too. nice work!
