After Dark

Draft at Modern. Poured out a dark, dark brown color with a small, light brown head of foam. It left sudsy lacing. It smelled of light coffee notes, chocolate and toffee. Sweet chocolate taste with coffee and a mild bitterness.

Appearance/Look: A lot darker than your typical dunkel. Almost stout-like.
Aroma/Smell: Big roast and coffee aromas.
Taste/Flavor: Very ale-like so not to style but tasty nonetheless.
Mouthfeel/Texture: Fairly chewy for a lager.
Overall Impression: A very tasty beer but not a classic example of a dunkel in more than one ways.

I'm trying this beer off the tapper at the brewery as part of a four sample flight. It poured a clear dark amber with thin off white head that is leave some lace. The scent had grain and caramel malt notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with semi sweet milk chocolate malt base with subtle caramel and toffee blend presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a great beer.

 

Dark brown in color with a fingernail of brown on top. Heavy lacing. The aroma is of chestnuts and caramel. I’m tasting dark roasted chestnuts. The mouth is slightly creamy and smooth.
