Appearance: Poured with an ample two thumbs of head that sadly did not stick around nor lace. The body is a cloudy white yellow that produced some brown sediment on the bottom.
Smell: Potent coriander spice dominates the nose with maybe a bit of clove, citrus and wheat malt fighting in the background to come in second. The potency is certainly there, and did not need any warming to come out.
Taste: I am told coriander has a taste of soap to people who can't stand it. Now I'm not one of those people, but I get it here as it permeates the beer. It starts paired with citrus, it moves on with more grain and spice notes that the beer progresses and the mild earth note accentuates the coriander finale where I do taste a bit of a soapy snap. I feel like this could be good if they toned that that note a bit more.
Mouthfeel: One good thing that soapy note does bring is a clean aftertaste, as only a brief mild earth and herby note makes an appearance before turning clean. Carbonation seems to fail in the mid-point of the beer and it's not quite as bright as I tend to want from the style, but it's still good.
Drinkability: Medium Light body, and while it could be lighter, it would probably be a disservice here. Settles down very well, but the problem is I want my Wits to be bright, thirst quenching, summer drinkers. This is more a spring time, herbal, wake you up experience that's not bad, but not quite what I an expecting.
Final Thoughts: I do find that a lot of Wits tend to cheap out on the herbal notes of the beer, and maybe that is what this brewer was going for. However, it's drowning out the desired citrus malt, almost like it's trying to hide the wrong proportions similar to how many IPAs just try to drown a beer in hops to conceal that it's not well balanced. If you like coriander, this is the beer for you, and I could see this going very well with fish tacos. However, it's not quite light and citrusy enough for may tastes.
