To begin, I unfortunately could not drink this beer. I attempted multiple sips but just couldn't stomach any more. In fairness to the brewer, I returned my beer and expressed to them as tactfully as I could my displeasure. The bartender agreed that it didn't necessarily taste like a black IPA but more like a stout. Agreed! But, admittedly, even as a stout, it simply was not very good.
The color was black with a dark brown lacing of a head of which there really was very little. Cloyingly sweet, almost sheathing mouthfeel upfront. Resembling more of coffee or milk stout or a low alcohol barley wine. Flat, little effervescence.
