Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served a medium golden amber color with a one finger head of white foam. The head has a decent level of retention, fading over time to leave some light lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is strongest of a malty and bready smell mixed with a rather decent showing of a citrus and herbal aroma. There is a little bit of an herbal smell mixed within there as well.
Taste – The taste begins with a bready and malty taste that has a moderate level of citrus and pine right from the start. The hop remains moderate overall, but is joined by some flavors of a light herbal and grassy nature. While having a bit of caramel and light fruitiness upfront, there flavors fade as the taste advances further, with the finish of the taste leaving one with a malty bready and decently hoppy taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker side with a carbonation level that is slightly lower. The mix of flavors isn’t really what I was expecting for a pale ale, but being an “imperial pale ale” a bit more body and lower carbonation to accentuate the malt and hop were merited.
Overall – Not sure I would consider it a true “imperial pale ale”, as it didn’t have a super robust abv. or flavor. It was however more robust than the standard pale ale. Overall it was a rather tasty brew and one I will come back to in future occasion if it sticks around long enough.
