the wee scottish as they are calling it now, a real nice brew, perfect for fall. it has a hint of smoke to it, a nice deep earthy red color, and enough sweetness to make it last awhile without making it hard to drink a lot of. i also get notes of ripe red apples, raisins, and brown sugar, which all come together to make this a pretty round and deep beer, just right here in the late fall. i was surprised by its relative lack of body, especially for a style that usually is pretty robust there, but i dont really mind it, keeps it quite drinkable. the flavors are hearty enough without the grain weight i suppose. the alcohol is also not noticeable at all, drinks like 6% abv instead of over 8%. the fruity middle into the rustic earthy finish is what i like the best. minimal hopping on the back end, leaves the sugars to finish it. overall i liked their coffee porter a little bitter, but this is one of the better beers i have had from these guys, and a unique and distinctive take on a style i wish we saw more of this time of year.

Dark brown, almost ruby pour with thick beige foam; good lacing and head retention. Caramel malt aroma. Toffee and caramel malt flavors and just a hint of bitterness. Medium lite mouthfeel. Overall, tasty, but I would have liked a little alcohol bite.
