Appearance: Red is a bit of a misnomer here, as brown seems more appropriate. Still, when the light strikes it a bead of crimson can be found amongst it's silhouetting body that shows low carbonation. A sizeable finger and a half of head was produced on the pour, but sadly it was not long for this world, neither atop the beer, nor stuck to the glass.

Smell: Malt is the star here, because he's the only one here. That said, there's nothing wrong with a healthy does of caramel and toffee malt. Warming doesn't really help it out either way.

Taste: It's like a lighter scotch ale, as it has that light touch of smokiness to it with a hint of tea. Anyways, caramel and toffee malt are the stars here and only the barest note of earthy hops comes forward to face and fall to the malt monster. It's a good thing I'm a fan of malt.

Mouthfeel: The malt never seems to get out of control in the aftetaste, which I like and while the carbonation is a bit mild, it works here. That's because it's simple (almost to a fault) there's not much to talk here of the transitioning.

Drinkability: On the heavier end of medium bodied, which is proper for an Irish Red. That said, it's force of malt doesn't exactly make it the most refreshing option around. I can see this being a great thing to pair with a lighter meal.

Final Thoughts: An all around simple but solid brew. This beer is sticking to the path most travelled and doing a damn good job of it. If there is a fault to be had, it's in that fact, but realistically I can't find anything objectionable here. Slainte to this one, if you are in the area certainly pick it up. Thumbs Up
