Poured a gorgeous deep golden body approaching amber, with very little white head, mostly a cap of foam. Overall impression of appearance is of a nice DIPA, head formation a bit low, but a gorgeous body. Scents of tropical fruit upfront imparting pineapple and light coconut leading into juicy tangerine and background aromas of pine resin and light pale malt. As it sits, pine resin, grassy hops and very light vegetal, dank hops become the primary aromas. Overall impression of aroma is of a very hoppy DIPA that has an excellent degree of range in the hop aromas of display, beginning bright and fruity, and ending resinous, grassy and vegetal with just enough sweet malt aromas to balance. A very nice example of a DIPA aroma profile. Flavor begins highly hoppy with high bitterness. Hop flavors begin with citrus peel and resinous, piney hops leading into vegetal and grassy hop flavors with hints of tangerine flesh. Malt backbone adds light caramel and grainy flavors. Middle adds greater hop flavor, with vegetal flavors dominating, though with a very light onion-like presence unlike some other examples of the style. Citrus peel continues, though is lighter in character and a light warming alcohol is discernible. Finish is bitter and hoppy, with grapefruit peel coming to the forefront supported by pine resin and grassy hop flavors. Light warming alcohol continues and light grainy malt is also present. Aftertaste is bitter and hoppy with an initial grassy hop flavor giving way to notes of grapefruit peel and pine resin. Overall impression of flavor is of a fantastic hoppy DIPA. It hits the variety of flavors common to the West Coast version of the style perfectly and comes across as both hoppy yet balanced and drinkable. A very good example of the style. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium-light carbonation and a very light warming alcohol presence. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a fantastic DIPA, very true to style. Overall this is one of the best DIPAs to come out of Arizona. It is fantastically rich in aroma and flavor and showcases the strengths of the style wonderfully. The hops shine in aroma and flavor, the malt supports, the mouthfeel lets the flavor shine. It is a truly great beer and able to compete with some of the better known DIPAs on the market. Very well done.
