Poured a deep brown body that is black unless held to light, with one and a half fingers of thick tan head that slowly receded. Overall impression of appearance is of the perfect stout, as good an example of the style as any. Scents of roast malt, chocolate, black coffee upfront, with supporting aromas of oak, vanilla and whiskey from the barrel aging and cinnamon mingling in the background. Overall impression of aroma is of a nice basic stout, but with a very nice barrel aged presence as well. Not an Imperial Stout as the base, so it is not as bold as those but rather a more subdued barrel aged stout that still shows character and depth in aroma. Flavor begins with notes of roasted malt, black coffee and light cinnamon, with a medium-light hint of oak and whiskey adding depth. Middle gains bitterness, of roast malt, fine black coffee and continuing oak barrel and whiskey. Finish is dry with notes of black coffee, whiskey, roasted malt and bitter chocolates with supporting flavors of oak. Aftertaste is dry with notes of whiskey, oak, vanilla and roasted malt, with black coffee. Overall impression of flavor is of a very nice barrel aged oatmeal dry stout. Quite nice. Mouthfeel is medium-light bodied with moderate carbonation and smooth, yet drying feel. Overall impression is of an excellent barrel aged stout, smooth and easy to drink. Overall this is a very good barrel aged oatmeal stout. Excellent aroma leads into a fine flavor that is a rich, yet sessionable stout. A fine example of a barrel aged standard stout.
