Smoked Wheat Erryday. Smoked hefe weizen with pineapple.
4.9% ABV.
Oliphant Brewing, Somerset, WI.
Clear, amber hue, small white head.
In the nose: Getting the hefe yeast notes, the banana and the touch of clove, with the smoke coming on. Smoked malt, getting smokier. Nice.
In the mouth: There's the smoke, there's the wheat, but...what? Pineapple? Huh. Yeah, that's here, too. Smoked banana and pineapple, too. Light bodied, easy drinker. Plenty of interesting, while still palatable flavors.
Why not make a smoked wheat, why not call it Smoked Wheat Erry Day (because, you know, Snoop Dogg, right?), and then pineapple? Got to be something else there. You tell me. I meant it, you tell, 'cause I don't know.
Who cares, it works.

From a 12oz can:
Appearance: Clear gold, good head.
Smell: Slight smokiness present, spicy.
Taste: Light smokiness, fruitiness-pineapple, then spicy pepper in the finish, but not too hot.
Overall: Needed a smoked beer fix since I'm not going to taprooms. This is a light to moderately smoked beer with a chile pepper finish that hit the spot. Pretty interesting mix of smoke and fruit and pepper.

This beer pours a pale amber with a large head. The aroma fairly light, with a whiff of lemon juice, a touch of smoke, and maybe a hint of pineapple. The flavor is dominated by a clear smack of woody smoke, with tart pineapple and lemon peel flavors - it creates a kind of smoked citrus idea, with just a hint of spice on the finish. The mouthfeel is very light with broady, sudsy carbonation. Overall I don't quite know how to feel about this beer - it is certainly interesting and attention grabbing - I wish the hefe characteristics were more emphasized, it seems more like a mild tart wheat with smoke and spice. I do rather like it, and it feels innovative - it is just difficult to pin down.

This beer pours a dark golden color. When poured from the growler, there is no ead, but there is carbonation in the glass. The nose is very rich with a "wheat" aroma - very rich and pleasing. The taste is very wheaty, but also has a very pleasing smoke flavor. Fairly easy drinking beer, but very rich in flavor. I will gladly get more the next time they have it on tap.
