Medium Talent is the base recipe of all our current Talent Series imperial stouts. We found the name from laughing at an insult spewed from one large-headed comedian to another large-headed comedian. Gotta keep it real.
Why the medium talent label? Jeremy tells me that Trevor has described Oliphant Brewing's art aesthetic as "garbage high art" and Jeremy agrees and so he "incepted" a picture of himself holding a "mickey moose" and drew his current head onto himself and gave it a bowl-cut because, as it is well known, he was in his "bowl-cut phase" at the time of the drawing. So, yeah. garbage high art.
Why does it work? It is roasty, without being bitter, it is boozy, without being hot, and it emphasizes fruity, dark chocolate notes without being cloying. It is 10% and that stands for itself. the beer was designed to be without adjuncts but suited them well. it keeps excellently in a barrel.

Aroma is grapes/wine and dark malts. The flavor is fruit/dark fruit, dark malts, chocolate and a vinous/acidic/warming alcoholic finish.

From a crowler:
Appearance: Black, huge brown head.
Smell: Fruity--cherry, sweetness, bit of roast.
Taste: Sweet, fruity, molasses, thin body, kind of candy-like note.
Overall: Picked up a crowler at hy-vee, a little disappointed here. Kind of weird fruity flavors in the smell and taste, light body, especially for a imperial stout, not much in the way of roast or chocolate flavors.
