Objectively I don't think this is bad. I haven't had a sweet potato ale of any kind before bit this essentially would pass as a pumpkin beer because it's spice heavy but overall I don't have any complaints that are specific to this brewery. I'm sure this could be better but I think it's cool they tried a different ingredient than pumpkin. Perhaps a squash would work better.

ALL THAT SAID, absolutely shit brewery. I hate that I need to try new things and I rate the beer as unbiased as possible but seriously don't go here. Horrible place with Horrible beer. It's not good when I have to question if every single can will be okay. The place has no QC.

Much of the contents of two twelve ounce cans have ended up inside a clear glass Imperial pint mug. The color is a pretty light copper-amber, on the translucent side. Its white head is a starchy and foamy mess. The aroma emanating is subtleties of clove, cinnamon and starch. The taste is sweet, mildly spiced with clove and cinnamon predominant. Of the listed ingredients, the most glaringly missing within is the molasses. A good dose of molasses would have brought an earthiness to counterbalance all this sweetness. Other than the spices, there really isn't much else to taste here. The starch is only vaguely one of yams; so little so, another starch could have been used without making much of a difference in the overall taste. Even the mouthfeel is too light, for it should be a more heavy body, considering the stickiness of yams. The concept is good, the product isn't.

Tastes exactly what it sounds like. Like licking a fresh cut hard potato. It sounds like the name of a Justin Bieber song, and it’s just as bad.

L: Cloudy amber with light carbonation and no head or lace
S: Light pumpkin flavor and a bit of cinnamon.
M: Creamy on the tongue, malty finish. No burn at all.
T: It's a pumpkin ale with yams. Difference being, it's not trying hard to be pumpkin ale. Not as spicy or sweet, but rather a clean "like a pumpkin" beer. Just enough cinnamon and a little touch of caramel round out the flavor.
O: Well. It's a great pumpkin beer that's not! Platform pulled off a great alternative to sweeter or not as flavorful pumpkin beers. I've bought this several times.

Pours a light to medium yellow/amber color, ample foamy head. Aroma is heavy on the pie spice. Flavor is boozy and dominated by pumpkin pie spices, finish is quite bitter. Carbonation is appropriate, medium bodied. Overall a good fall beer, but surprisingly boozy for a 7.7% ale.

Pours a light copper color with over a finger of head. The nose had modest autumn spices. The flavor has some cinnamon but not an overage of it. It also has a definite trace of sweetness from the yams. The mouthfeel is chewy.

This is a nice alternative to the pumpkin ales that are popular in the fall.

Today is my (Un?)Happy New Jumping Off of the New Platform Beer Sunday (Week 755)! I have been redding up my house during my CANvalescence from surgery & putting together a number of brewery horizontals in doing so. I had planned, even before its announcement about its sale to A-B/InBev, to drink a buncha beers & a seltzer from Kleveland's Platform Beer Co. for this week's NBS. I was disheartened to hear of the news, especially having read the GI story. I am not one to boycott a beer due to their acquisition by a large corporation, but it did take some of the wind out of my sails.

From the CAN: "Sweet Potato Ale"; "Slightly Spiced*Caramel*Smooth"; "Malts[:] 2 Row[,] Munich II[,] C 15[,] Carafoam[,] Acidulated[,] Hops[:] Galena[,] Yeast[:] American Ale[,] Adjuncts[:] Sweet Potato[,] Molasses[,] Spice Blend[,] Flaked Barley[,] Plato[:] 9[,] IBU [:] 16"; "Fresh CLE Beer"; "Ohio Craft Beer".

I was actually kind of excited to Crack! this one open. I have always liked the pumpkin beers & the adjuncts in this one had me intrigued. My moderately-paced Glug was intended to ensure that everything was in suspension & it worked. I got just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head from my efforts & they hung in nicely, slowly falling away to wisps. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Amber to Deep-Amber/Light-Copper (SRM = > 9, < 13). Nose was heavily spiced and the molasses (treacle) was readily apparent. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but on the approach. The taste was imperfect, the spice blend not blending as smoothly as I might have liked. It seemed a bit heavy on the nutmeg while lacking in caramel. 8=( This had real potential, but it seemed like the spices were imbalanced. Finish was dry, as any beer with spices as an adjunct should be expected to be. I was not unhappy, but I was not ecstatic about it, either. YMMV.

A- Bright orange that is hazy with a one finger head that hangs around. Splotchy lacing on the pint.

S- bubblegum smell even thought it should be sweet potato

F- nutmeg and clove dominate with hints of a sweet potato on the back end

M- creamy and chewy. medium bodied beer with nutmeg dominating in the mouth

O- well...it was different. i wouldnt get it again but it isnt all that bad but leaves room for improvement. the nutmeg and clove dominate too much for my liking.

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a bright orange color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is strong of sweet potato, some cinnamon. Taste is sweet potato, brown sugar, maybe a little to heavy on the cinnamon, extremely easy drinking at this abv. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a unique beer worth trying.

Look: Rich, golden-orange color with white, short lived head that turned to small-bubble-lacing
Smell: Strawberry bubblegum would be my primary instinct on the nose, followed by some slightly toasted breads... kind of sweet.
Taste: Somewhat bitter earthy taste up front, sweet, spicy like clove and nutmeg, not really cinammony though. Earthy.
Feel: Thick, lively carbonation, highly viscous and resinous
Overall: Interesting beer. Probably would not get again but interesting for a seasonal beer!

Actually thought this beer was quite good even though I overpaid for it. Port a fairly nice dark brown color with a quarter inch of foam and smelled of starchy sweetness a good dose of cinnamon and allspice and very little hops. The Taste was pretty much on par sweet not very bitter or earthy and had a nice bit of spice to it more than most which I enjoy. It was very easy to drink medium in body and would be a great fall sipper. Good stuff
