This is the first of New Back to the Beer Future Sunday, Part 5, Mission II (Week 763), taking me/us back to Week 755 & pre-sale Platform! I had to add this one, but it is identified on the CAN as an Ale, so I am hoping not to be crucified too badly as a result. I feel justified in its inclusion, but that & a dollar will get you a cuppa joe.
From the CAN: "Sparkling Mimosa Inspired Ale"; "Fruits: Heritage Apple Blend; Grain: Buckwheat; Yeast: English Cider; Adjunct: Orange; Plato: 8"; "Crafted to Remove Gluten".
I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN my C-Line Glug as it fizzed & foamed to created a rolling finger of fizzy, foamy, bone-white head that fizzled out as quickly as I poured! 8=( Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Pale-Straw (SRM = 1 - 2). Nose was more apple than orange, but it was definitely fruity. Mouthfeel was thin & watery. The taste was REALLY sharp & having had a number of Glutenberg beers, I knew that it was the buckwheat that they had used as its grain. It should have read "Crafted Not to Include Gluten"! Phew. Tart apple CANpounded with buckwheat & orange made for a very tart ale. Finish was bone-dry. Phew. I would have liked a greater presence or more assertion on the part of the orange, but that's just me. YMMV.
