Clear golden body with a foamy white head that laces the glass nicely, this old school WCIPA features nice citrus notes and some resiny pine.
The taste has a nice amount of ripe oranges and that resiny pine for bitterness. Nice flavor and very drinkable with the crisp, dry mouthfeel. Very glad I tried this one.

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a ever so slightly hazed orange-yellow color with a one finger head of white foam. The head has a moderate level of retention, fading to notes of streaky lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is strongest of sweet citrus, with lots of tangerine and orange. Along with these smells comes notes of tropical fruits and a ruby red grapefruit. Other floral and herbal hop notes are there as well, and with some lemon, a rather citrus and invitingly fruity smell is produced overall.
Taste – The taste starts out big in citrus with orange, grapefruit, and tangerine all being there. There is a bit of a cracker and bready malt as well as a touch of caramel that create a nice backdrop flavor. As the taste advances some peach and tropical fruits develop, all while a touch of lemon and some herbal hops come as well. With a slight increase in the malt at the end, one is left with a citrusy, but still rather crisp taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body was medium in thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that was high and prickly. For the citrus and the abv the feel was good and made for an easy drinker.
Overall – A rather pleasant drinking citrus pale ale.

CAN 355ml. Nabbed a sixer at an H-E-B Grocery in Austin, TX for $6.99 USD plus tax. Cheap label design with a simple white and green motif. Standard pull-tab can.
"Fire brewed with pure spring water, whole grain, whole flower hops..." "Warrior, Simcoe, Citra, and Amarillo." 6.5% ABV. IBU 67. SRM 7. From their website: "Most of the hop additions are done very late in the boil or added during primary fermentation. The dry hops are recirculated in primary."
Served cold.
APPEARANCE: Clear yellow body. Fizzy.
Head is frothy. White in colour. Soft in appearance. Good complexion and consistency. Retention is good - ~7 minutes in a weissbierglas (it was all I had on hand!). Obviously filtered.
Appears well-carbonated. Not a unique or special look for an IPA, but well within style conventions. On the brighter side, but not particularly vibrant.
AROMA: Nicely floral; I'd definitely guess Cascade or Centennial if I didn't know better. Juicy citrus and orange pulp is present, probably from the Citra. I'm not getting the resinous character of Amarillo. No onion from Simcoe. Some tropical fruit peel is present, but it doesn't eclipse the classic citrusy and floral hop aromatics.
No grapefruity, piney, oily, or resinous hop aromatics are in play.
Maltwise all I get is 2-row/pale malt.
No overt yeasty notes. No off-notes. No obvious alcohol presence.
Aromatic intensity is above average. Suggests a pleasant IPA with a nice hop profile and well-balanced bitterness.
TASTE: Bubblegum, bright floral hop flavours, orange pulp, a hint of Simcoe-derived yogurt-like flavour, mango peel.
Pale malts (2-row malted barley) keep any concomitant hop bitterness in check but don't completely erase the bitterness entirely like those Johnny-come-lately India Odwalla Ales. Generally well-balanced, though not perfectly dialed in.
Average flavour duration, flavour intensity, and depth of flavour. I like the hop profile, though it fails to showcase any of its constituent hops in terms of their full potential, which is a shame since Citra and Amarillo are my two favourite.
Simcoe dominates with that tangy yogurty note that I've really only ever gotten from Simcoe.
TEXTURE: Scratchy, medium-bodied, fairly refreshing, smooth, and wet. Not boozy, astringent, harsh, gushed, hot, or otherwise problematic. More of an oily mouthfeel might help coax out a bit more depth of flavour from the hops.
This texture doesn't accentuate specific flavours or elevate the beer as a whole, but it's generally well executed and the beer has no carbonation issues.
OVERALL: A competently brewed enjoyable IPA with a nice hop profile. I'll enjoy working my way through the sixer I bought and it's a good buy at the $6.99 USD price point, but I wouldn't revisit it knowingly. Still, this makes me eager to try more Shannon Brewing beers and I have to say I'm impressed they accomplished this beer on a moderately large scale using fire as the heat source. The skeptic in me thinks the fire brew bit is just gimmickry, but then Fantome uses fire to terrific effect...
