Another review from the July 11, 2016 week of trip to the Toolbox tasting room. Also another review where this is the first one posted to beeradvocate. Zero karma points for being the first. Ahem.
Pours a different shade of purple than the blueberry one did. In fact its more like a reddish brown than purple. 1/3" off white head. Aroma was of plum, that dark fruit note was definitely juicier with the fruit than the yeast like you get in Russian Imperial Stouts. Also if anyone cares, they say they are "Italian" plums. Dunno what the difference is, they didn't have hairy backs or anything.
Taste was good but not as good as the other house blends. More acidic, it hits you initially before you get the ol palate calibrated. The dryness of the mouthfeel amplifies the sour and acidity. Not much influence from the barrel beyond that drying tannin effect. A little acetic. Damn its sour and it kind of dominates that profile. Good but was kind of the disappointing pick of the day.
