The Celebration Porter was made to celebrate 11 years of Anspach & Hobday. The beer pulls together everything that’s recognisable about A&H beers, but still has its own identity and sense of occasion.
To this end, we’ve celebrated our roots as a Porter brewery, but were keen to take a different approach to the recipe. Inspired by our 1st birthday beer, The Three Threads, we included a large portion of amber malt in the grist, which gives a lovely toasty aroma and a bit of residual sweetness. As with a number of our other historically inspired beers, we also included Invert Sugar No. 2, which adds notes of dark fruit and burnt toffee. In terms of its historical reference, a recipe of this sort probably predates the sorts of Porters we are used to brewing, relying less on very highly kilned malts. This results in a beer that is more of a deep ruby red than a pitch black.
