The original session beer, Ordinary Bitters formed a cornerstone of English drinking culture. Perfectly balanced between malt sweetness and hop bitterness, our interpretation is brought up to date with the use of US Chinook hops and packaged in a widget can for extra smoothness. Delicate hop aromas of pine, spice and dark fruits are followed by a smooth, velvety palate, with cascading notes of biscuit and caramel.

Pours a fairly clear amber with fine, soapy head.

Smell is malty and a bit nutty with some floral hints. Notes of toast, honey, rye and knäckebröd.

Taste is malty and floral with a moderate bitterness. Notes of toast, honey and rye with some spicy hints.

Mouthfeel is medium, soft, smooth and well carbonated. Quite cask-like.

Overall, a very nice bitter bringing cask feel in a can.

470ml can with nitro widget.
L: Light haze, amber colour with one finger of off-white cream head that leaves sheets of lacing.
S: Clean but light aroma.
T: Nice balance between biscuity malt and earthy hops. Low bitterness.
F: Medium body with a velvet smooth mouthfeel that lacks depth and becomes a tad thin in the finish. Barely dry.
O: The US Chinook hops used in this brew taste a lot like traditional UK Goldings hops. There’s a little less black tea and a little more citrus and pine, and bitterness is lower. The widget provides a fantastic, rich and creamy heady but I’m not convinced about the smooth palate that thins pretty quickly. Could almost be mistaken for a £1.25 can of John Smith’s Extra Smooth?
