one of my favorite brews we had in here, a four grain brown ale thats at once dry and hoppy, two things i dont normally associate with the style in american craft brewing. this is something really different and quite well done. tough to guess on the grains because the chocolate malt note in here is pretty prominent, but based on the feel and the finish, i might venture oats and wheat and rye as the others, there is a nice soft roundness to this that gives it some weight beyond its strength, and there is a little peppery element in here that could be some rye. its great, layers of dry cereal grains ranging from raw to toasted to baked to caramelized, its great. less sweetness than most browns makes it real drinkable, and a dried grassy european tasting bittering hop finishes it off. it could stand a little more carbonation, which was true of many of the beers we had on tap here, but the recipe is dynamite. one of the more innovative and delicious american browns i have had in a long time, and probably the most complete beer we had in here. really strong offering from these unsung innovators.

Pours a clear, brown colour. Smells like sweet, caramel malts, and toasted malts. Tastes like slightly sweet malts, caramel, toasted grains, and not much else.

L: Pours rich bright brown under a 1” light cream to tan foam cap. S: Rich grainy malty aromas with some chocolate in the background.
T: Starts with mildly sweet malt flavors with traces of chocolate and caramel that grow to a mild dark chocolate bitterness finishing with a touch of grainy tartness and a slight grainy astringency to dry things out slightly.
F: Very creamy medium body and carbonation.
O: Nicely made American Brown Ale.

I was not overly excited about the finish of this beer.....was very bitter on the finish. Beer poured a deeper red with no head and no lace. The scent carried some biscuit tones. The taste started ok...malty and bread but then finished bitter. The mouthfeel was medium in body with ok carbonation. Overall it was not the best.
