Foggy dull orange-amber with a very tall head of khaki foam.
The nose is almost like a big maerzen, but taste brings even more oomph, kind of like a Belgian strong. Bitterly toasty Brazil nut is bolstered by a hint of oak that meets a phenolic spice that's a mix of peppercorn and clove.
Bone dry, it doesn't linger, making it hard to grasp. I think the classification of Heller Bock in their email notice is certainly more fitting than the "pale lager" on the label, though even that seems a bit off the mark in execution. Still, it is another tasty beer out of Mad Fritz, though very heavily in the Belgian vein.
