Reviewed from (long-standing) notes. Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a Hunahpu snifter.
A: Essentially black and opaque. Forms two fingers' worth of tan head, though it doesn't last long. Fairly low amount of visible carbonation after the initial rush from the pour fades away.
S: Coffee, roasted malts, and vanilla. A bit of roasted nutty character and some sweet leather. I don't get much (if any) coconut on the nose. Some bittersweet cacao in the background as well.
T: Coffee, roasted malts, and dry cacao. Vanilla and some toffee sweetness. Just a bit of the coconut, mostly just at and immediately after the swallow. Some leathery dryness with roasted bitterness in the hang.
M: A nice thick body. Fairly low carbonation sensation. The alcohol seems well-integrated, but you do notice a touch of burn in the end.
O: A pretty good coffee porter with vanilla. I wish the coconut had pulled through a bit more - that was disappointing. But if it hadn't been promised on the label, I wouldn't have noticed its absence. I do think this would be an interesting candidate for some barrel aging in the future.
