Doops brought this one out for beer night a while back. Cheers!
From a 750 into a snifter
Scotch whisky BA imperial stout with dulche con leche + coffee added
APPEARANCE: Clear dark brown pour yields a one finger, medium looking tan head with good retention. Clear black body with no carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a half wisp and ring. Touches of wisp remain leaving no real lacing on the glass.
SMELL: Coffee, lots of sweet cream, vanilla and cacao powder with some roasted notes up front. Espresso and white chocolate. Bold with a crème brulee quality and a bit of scotch barrel.
TASTE: Coffee, butterscotch, crème brulee and vanilla up front. Medium finish of more crème brulee, vanilla, sweet molasses, coffee notes and heavy sweet cream. Nots of scotch barrels but it’s a little too mute, unfortunately. Candy like, with plenty of vanilla, coffee and cacao lingering.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. Creamy and silky on the palate, slick and smooth going down, finishing a bit sticky. No heat.
OVERALL: Good stuff overall. There’s lots of sweet stuff going on here, with plenty of vanilla, cacao and creamy goodness, though the barrel is a little non-existent here. To be honest, they probably didn’t really need to barrel age it at all, but if you’re going to do it, it should probably be a little more present. Whatever the case, it’s certainly worth checking out as it is. Thanks again, doops!

Huge thanks to 4truth for this 750ML bottle. I’ve been pining for a J. Wakefield stout since having a few on tap in D.C. over Memorial Day weekend. And does anyone know where I can find the model for the label art? Wow. Split with my, uh, wife. Don’t tell her.
Black. Pretty quiet looking. The smell is dense, like when your two year old inadvertently jams brownie batter up your nose. Bourbon, coffee, caramel. I could go on, but I’ve been sniffing for five minutes. Anymore & the beer will file a restraining order.
Aye Que Rico is so dense light cannot escape. Yowza. Caramel, real caramel made from caramel acorns, bursts forth on a rearing charger of malts, coating my mouth, throat, larynx, & parts of the couch. At least I hope that’s caramel. Coffee is an afterthought, & the barrel imparts a slow, long, subtle woodiness to complement the soft bourbon. The finish is heavy lactose, light chocolate, & leaning into the wind of an after-dinner liqueur. It’s going to take me an hour to get through half a bomber, but I’d like another half to wade through after that. Then another. Then sweet oblivion.
You hear about breweries & they rarely live up to expectations. J. Wakefield? You’re welcome on my couch anytime. As long as you bring beer. Otherwise, there’s a Motel 8 just over the hill. Excellent beer that’s close to the elite.
