Picked this 750ML bottle up recently & it feels like someone spilled a beer on it…years ago. “Barrel Aged Boutit” across the front. Split with my wife.
Had pour(s) of this shortly after its release in D.C. in 2018 & I remember it as fondly as any high school girlfriend (a lot more than a few). Befitting a three year old stout the cap comes loose with only a gentle sigh & a hard pour brings only a short-lived head. The nose seems to have leaked out of the bottle; gentle sweetness & char, but my fingers smell stronger.
Barrel Aged Boutit has to warm before it hits peak enjoyment, just like most hands. The bourbon leads with its helmet in a long, boozy, earthy, warming that runs from start to finish. Maple syrup allows the sweetness to swell, while the vanilla & cocoa are just bit players. Dry.
Delicious. Doesn’t hold up to my addled memory, but what does? Excellent beer.

On tap at Other Half Rochester in Bloomfield, NY.
This one pours a very dark black color, with a small head, and no lacing.
This smells like harsh booze, oak, dark chocolate, and roast. Most of the adjuncts are not really here - there's no maple or vanilla.
This is extremely disappointing. It's dry and bitter, with a harsh, harsh booziness. It's obviously 17%, so this is to be a bit expected, but it's still overwhelming. There's basically none of the "adjuncts" here - some maple or vanilla sweetness would certainly help.
This is fairly thin, and not easy to drink, with not enough creaminess or good body to it.
This is highly disappointing.

Another highlight at wakefest. This is simply a great barrel aged beer. I didn't pick up on too much of the adjuncts and I was okay with that. I liked the barrel flavor and the base stout flavor. Really nice how the adjuncts were subtle here.
