Drank from a 500ml bottle purchased at Fort Point Market, Boston, MA
Served in a snifter
The liquid poured an oily and viscous dark brown/black hue and looked completely pitch black in the glass. There was no head nor any lacing.
Outstanding aroma. Hazelnut came through big time. Loads of rich chocolate too. Nice melding of milk and dark chocolate notes. Perhaps some cocoa powder. Sweet but not excessively so for the style. Good dose of vanilla as well. Hint of freshly brewed coffee. There was a dark roasted malt quality too, but it was somewhat buried under the adjuncts.
The flavor profile was also fantastic and very similar to the nose. Tons of hazelnut again. Big robust maltiness on the front end. Roasted malts were most apparent. Moderate chocolate presence. Bakers chocolate came to mind. Some cinnamon was noticeable in the center. Bit of espresso on the back end. More roastiness too. A big, boozy alcohol kick appeared on the finish, though I definitely would not specifically pick out the bourbon or barrel character.
Terrific rich, lush, full bodied mouthfeel. Creamy, slick and smooth on the palate. The liquid contained a fine, subtle effervescence that was perfect for the style. After a few sips, I could feel a slightly sticky film on my lips.
The Man With The Golden Churro is a terrific pastry stout with a hazelnut forward aroma and flavor profile and a fantastic mouthfeel. While the bourbon/barrel notes were minimal and the pricetag steep, I am definitely glad I gave this a try.
