J Wakefield Brewery Adjunction Project : Yellow Lion is a real premium stout and is best served chilled to 4C. Aged in a blend of maple, vanilla, and double-oak bourbon barrels, infused with coffee. Having tried over 100 different coffee stouts in different countries, my favourite is still, Amalgam Underground Breakfast, followed by J Wakefield Brewery Adjunctron Project: Yellow Lion. A very close call between the two stouts.

Stark black with a fuzzy burnt brown blanket that quickly dies to a silky black surface.

This is the best Lion I've had, as it is delivering really rich, deep and mature notes of chocolatey mocha roast with charred barrel and dark fruits via a smoothly slick, silky yet tingly body that finishes semi-dry and lightly sticky. A gooey vanilla character pairs very well with woody heat as the nose adds nougat and marshmallow.

Very solid beer - drank day of release from the brewery. Tastes of maple, vanilla, and coffee. I personally had a couple other adjunctron beers that I liked more, but this was definitely top flight. I though the coffee and cocoa had a bit more bitterness than I personally wanted (I prefer sweeter beers), but I think if this aged for 6 months to mellow it would be fantastic.

500ml bottle at home with Lisa. A really nice beer. Big nose, boozy, cocoa, vodka soaked raisins, maybe even sweet cherry. Flavor is less hot and slightly less intense, except some lingering heat on the back end. Chocolate covered plum up front, slightly bitter cocoa and medium roast coffee thru the middle, and some oak and milk chocolate on the finish. Pretty big, thick mouthfeel (but not overly sweet) with a somewhat drying finish due to prominent oak. Really good but could have used 3-6 months to calm the 14% a bit.
