Barrel-Aged Down to Split, a THICCC and creamy collaborative Stout brewed with our homies at The Eight State Brewing Co. & DSSLVR.
We pulled from the DTS base last year and let it sleep in VSOP Cognac Barrels for over a year. We then conditioned it with an INSANE amount of Wild Thai Banana, Toasted Coconut, Roasted Macadamia Nuts, Cocoa Nibs, Strawberries & Tahitian Vanilla.

We don't see many Wakefield beers here in Oregon, so despite the high price at my local ($30 plus for a 500 ML bottle), I decided to pull the trigger. Oh well, can't win them all.
The beer pours a thick, blackish brown color with minimal head retention and lacing. This really looks like a beer that has seen considerable barrel aging, and it also appeared as if there was still considerable fruit pulp in the beer as well (there was a lot of sediment in the bottom of the bottle when I finished it). The aroma was probably the best aspect of this beer, as I picked up considerable tropical fruit (pineapple, banana, mango, etc.), along with chocolate, light coconut, light coffee and cognac. The flavor profile tended to replicate the nose, but was sweet to the point it was nearly setting off my gag reflex. The beer was also pretty hot on the finish, which didn't seem to go well with the extreme sweetness. The label shows that the abv. is 14%, which is completely believable. This is a very sizeable beer. Mouthfeel is very full, with a long, sweet, potent, warming finish. This beer is very much a sipper, and in fact we were unable to get thru even the 500 ML bottle at the BA stout party I was hosting (it was not one of the more popular beers at the party). So the wife and I had nearly half bottle of this to drink the next day (my wife wasn't a fan of this beer either). Drinkability is fair at best in this beer.
Interesting beer, but not one I'll need to try again any time soon. For those who enjoy super sweet party stouts, this might well be your jam. It wasn't for me.
