An Imperial stout that was aged in Dominican Rum barrels for 24 months. We then let it rest on an absurd amount of toasted coconut and coconut chips. We also added in a touch of cassia and nutmeg. Then aged on toasted hazelnuts before packaging.

Drank from a 16.9 fl oz (500 ml) bottle purchased at Fort Point Market, Boston, MA
2022 vintage
Served in a tulip
The beer poured a somewhat murky looking, dark brown/black with zero head and no lacing. Oily and slick in the glass. This liquid appeared to be almost completely flat.
The aroma was outstanding. Toasted coconut notes dominated. Really fragrant and sweet. Rum barrel notes also came through strong. Chocolate was also apparent. A touch of cinnamon was detectable as well. The hazelnut, unfortunately, was nowhere to be found.
The flavor profile was nearly as impressive as the nose. Again, the toasted coconut presence was intense. Rum barrel notes were also quite prominent. Loads of roasted and caramel malt character as well. Overall, quite sweet and boozy but also surprisingly drinkable. More roasted malts and alcohol on the back end and the finish. Sweet rum and coconut notes lingered after the swallow.
The mouthfeel was syrupy and viscous and almost completely devoid of any carbonation. By the drink’s end, the sugars in the beer left a sticky film on my lips.
Despite the fact that the hazelnut presence was undetectable and there was hardly any carbonation, this beer was still fantastic. That said, without the hazelnut, I definitely would not have dropped $30 on each bottle of this and the banana variant.
