Brainwash glows a hazy, post-hypnotic yellow and smells of mellon, passionfruit, white pepper & grain. The taste is juicy and tart, very much like a wild ale, but it achieves it’s flavor profile simply with water, hops, grain and sachromyces (non-wild) yeast.

4/19/26 (Illuminated Brew Works Taproom) (Chicago, Illinois) $8 13 oz draft, snifter glass, 7% ABV Sour Ale with Cherries.

Appearance: Bronze orange base with no head beyond brief white ring around the rim. 3.0

Aroma: Cherry fruit life savers. The extent after a few tries. 3.0

Taste: Same as the aroma, cherry life savers. 3.25

Mouthfeel: Light carbonation, drinks lighter than the ABV. Sweet, faintly tart and sour. Cherry all the way. 3.5

Overall: Not my favorite style, but this is an OK offering. Cherry pop if you are seeking it. 3.25

Full pint into a Duvel tulip
Hazy gold, 2 finger head retreats to a ring and a thin film being replenished from island in the center
Guava dominates with some pepper
General tartness with the pepper continuing
Juicy feel with a coating quality that extends the spicy finish

Cloudy glowing orange, thin layer of foam that fades fast, leaving behind no lacing.
Aroma is a little phenolic, dried fruit and pepper notes.
Taste is more fruity with a crisp white grape tartness, light to medium bodied, citric and lightly acidic.
Some residual esters and saison yeast notes linger throughout, somewhat juicy and finishes dry.
So this only uses saccharomyces yeast, nothing wild, so it was kettle soured. Not bad, lacks depth but tastes good.
