Pours thick with a thin, persistent brown head. Chocolate and vanilla hit the nose first with a boozy whiff on the back end. Mouthfeel is surprisingly thin. Taste stays on the front of the tongue; quite bitter with less vanilla character than I would expect.

One of 420 bottles produced in conjunction with and sold exclusively through the Wine and Cheese Place in St. Louis. Thanks to Destihl and Paul Hayden for hooking up the good stuff for us!

Bottle description—sorry, it wouldn’t let me enter it above :
Bourbon barrel aged Belgian-style imperial stout with vanilla added.

“This exclusive brew was brewed in collaboration with the Wine and Cheese Place to celebrate the 35th (coral) anniversary. Coralation features a rich chocolate-like aroma and subtle notes of vanilla and oak. Flavors of rich, dark-chocolate malt combine with vanilla and oak tannins enhancing the smooth body and dry finish. Cheers!”

Substantial tan head of fine khaki bubbles dissipated to a ring pretty quickly. Nice vanilla, chocolate, and roast on the nose. Flavors match well and start very smooth per the description. I don’t get a lot of bourbon, but the vanilla is great. The vanilla fades into a substantial hop presence as it develops on the palate. Oak tannins play into the dry finish for sure too, but it’s not abrasive but rather a welcoming dryness. Mouthfeel is medium full. (I might have said full if I hadn’t had a couple derivations this weekend and abraxas yesterday ;). I’d actually put this over vanilla abraxas in terms of balance of flavors and clarity of the vanilla.
Cheers!
