a very tasty and authentic doppelweizen here, a style we just dont see much of at all, especially from american brewers. this drinks just a tad sweet to me, some sugary caramelized malt richness in the center of it, but i love the depth of grain flavor and the well developed yeast character this showcases, and was impressed with its quality overall. light amber in color and a little bit short of clear, an average white head on top. it smells like cooked banana, english toffee, raisin, and dried date, really pretty layered, classically german, but with its own flare. the taste of the wheat is on display here too, a little bit nutty and just a tad cooked to me as well, softly toasted, even light umami in the mix, and it also adds a lot of body, this is fuller without being heavy, really pleasant texture from a weight standpoint, just wish it were slightly drier overall, there is a bit of residual sugar left on the palate that slows this down much more than the alcohol for me. fine carbonation, more and more flavor as it warms, a lot here from the yeast, earthy spiciness late, and overall just a really cool beer. these guys deserve more credit for their beer than they appear to be getting...
