Obviously Cartel had to create a beer using our coffee beans! Our head roaster Paul focuses on the specific flavors and essences of our single origin coffees and, in so doing, roasts with lighter profiles. This allows the bean to express more of its natural flavors and unique qualities. So instead of brewing a coffee porter or a coffee stout, we decided to go with a lighter nut brown ale recipe that allows the coffee to show through both in the aroma and in the finish. A smooth, nutty sweetness that finishes with wonderful coffee notes, making this a great beer for any time of year.

Murky, light brown and thin. Smells a bit nutty and of coffee, some sweetness. Taste is awesome and not what I was expecting from the name of the brew. Good carb and overall a very enjoybale beer. Keep up the good work!

Poured a very deep brown, almost black, with no real head to speak of. Nice looking, but not amazing. Scents of rich black coffee, freshly ground, mixed with bready malt, rich chocolate and light notes of caramel. Overall impression of aroma is of a light porter with coffee or a very dark brown ale, that type that borders on a coffee stout, but is quite pleasant. Flavor begins with a bold flavor of rich, black coffee mingling with hints of bittersweet chocolate and very light bready malt. Middle continues to be coffee forward, with notes of dark chocolate and cocoa powder. Finish is lightly bitter with notes of coffee with cream, bittersweet chocolate and cocoa powder and a light caramel note. Aftertaste is coffee and cocoa powder. Overall impression of flavor is of an odd brown ale, really. More of a coffee stout. A very good coffee stout, but not a brown ale as advertised. Still quite nice. Mouthfeel is medium bodied wig medium carbonation and a creamy feel. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a good stout. Overall this is a very good beer. It is amazingly coffee forward and pleasant to drink. Yet it is not the brown ale it is billed as. An odd beer to be sure, but very good.
