Pretty hazy orange color. Citrus smell and initial taste...taste becomes bitter at end... a little too bitter for my preference.

Really good beer, not my absolute favorite though.

A 16 oz can filled on 7/14 poured into an imperial pint glass.
A-3 fingers of sticky pure white foam with some nice staying power. A cloudy golden.
S-I get a lot of citra hops out of here. That's a good thing. Aromas of passionfruit and grapefruit. Aromatic. Dank.
T-The taste follows the aroma. Hoppy. Grapefruit, a touch of pine. Some tropical fruit. A fairly significant malt presence. Biscuity. My biggest complaint is that there is a moderate bitterness and it is a bit astringent and definitely drying.
M-Moderate to high carbonation. Nice body. Substantial linger and bitter bite. Dry.
O-Like the dank, a little high on the stank (bitter aftertaste). A solid ipa that doesn't skimp on malt or hops. Solid brew.

Can received as a recent extra.

This one pours a clear dark-ish orange, with a small head, and no lacing.

It smells...wet. It's kinda off-putting, it's got this damp vegetal smell to it, with some earthy pine, and a little bit of citrus.

This is not very good at all, unfortunately. It's just got this wet vegetal stewed flavor to it, and it kinda of muddles any good hop flavor there might have been. Not sure what went wrong, but this is definitely a mediocre IPA.

This is light bodied, not all that crisp or drinkable, with a normal level of carbonation.

Despite the interesting name, there's nothing interesting about this beer.

Big citrus aroma of orange, grapefruit and lemon. The taste also has the big citrus notes along with bready malts. While the mouthfeel is very nice and creamy, the finish is not quite dry enough with a slight bitter citrus aftertaste. Overall, a very nice flavorful IPA that is different from other MN offerings.

L-Rich oak colored...light lacing and white creamy head

S-Spicy and a bit grungy....tobacco leaf, bong resin, pine and some grapefruit

T-Pine, lemons, grapefruit...good hop load. Tobacco leaf.

F-Medium bodied...finishes with some grapefruit peel like bitterness and pine.

O-Solid enough IPA. Certainly assertive enough. The flavor mix is not one of my favorite hop blends I've had in an IPA but not one of my least favorite either. Good, above average IPA.

for how expressive and interesting their other beers are, this one is a little generic and pedestrian, although still really well made and all, it just doesnt have the unique features most of the others do, and as such is somewhat of a letdown, despite its robust and fresh hop flavors and richer mouthfeel, tall lasting head, and approachable nature. looks the part, mostly clear, richer golden, and holding a nice white head. it smells and tastes a little dumbed down, over malted, and too bitter. like the boldness of flavor is right, but the proportions are all wrong. it has a lasting pushing acrid bitter component, but enough malt residuals to more than compensate for that. it has some good carbonation though which helps, and a certain hop freshness thats attractive. all of the other beers i have had from these guys have been distinctive and unique, but this one falls a little more in line with what else is going on in the local scene up there, and even though its pretty good, its definitely lost in the shuffle for me. these guys can do a lot better than this, but i still like it...

The Troll Way pours a copper color with a big lacing head. Big hoppy aroma. Taste has a nice fresh hoppy flavor, crisp, with hints of grapefruit. Goody body and feel. Overall a solid hoppeir IPA.

This beer pours a murky amber color. The head was frothy. The nose has a nice hop/citrus aroma. The taste starts citrus. It works into the hops bitter. It is a good IPA.

I love it! Citrusy and not too malty sweet. I prefer a lighter colored IPA personally. Straight forward and honest. Wonderful aroma and bitterness for any IPA, and dry enough to drink more than one. Thank you!

very light and clear brew.

mostly unremarkable. when i get of the citrus is more grapefruit peel than anything else. bit of pine to the back end, and some dry bitterness.

mouth is a little viscous and the bitterness hangs around.

Poured from a 16 oz can into a pint glass.
A: Mils carbonation, golden, copper blonde beer that is essentially clear and no haze.

S: Mild hop presence and a malt base that is significant. You get citrus hop aroma that accentuates orange, grapefruit and other flavor hints.

T: A striking and intense hop flavor that solid throughout with some backside bitterness. The citrus flavor unfolds with grapefruit, orange, mango, tangerine, and other flavors.

O: For a single IPA, this beer stands out among many others in the class because it has intensity and consistency. And of course, it has wonderful citrus character, but also a solid malt base, and it also delivers some sweetness on the backside.

Hazy golden color, with a small head. Quite a bit of visible carbonation.

Smells of mango, citrus, and subtle hops. Overall, a very sweet nose - and a quite good one at that.

I really enjoyed the smell of this. Sadly, the taste was disappointing. It is significantly more bitter than the smell suggests, and most of the sweetness is nowhere to be found. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy.

The smell raised my expectations, just for the taste to bring it crashing down. This beer is not awful, but it makes me disproportionally sad.

From a 16oz can:

Appearance: Slightly hazy orange, good head.

Smell: Prickly citrus.

Taste: Moderately sweet then lots of citrus, not too bitter, kind of heavy feel.

Overall: Picked up a 4 pack of this local to try. It's a solidly made IPA, a little heavy in feel, but gives a good hoppy kick. I need to visit the taproom one of these days.

(Re-review 7/28/17, original score 2.52)

This beer pours a hazy orange color. The head is billowy, and leaves nice rings of thick lacing. The aroma is of tangerine, fresh cut grass, and blood orange. The taste is much the same, and very juicy. The perceived bitterness is on the lower end for a IPA. It both tastes and smells remarkably like a fresh hop IPA/APA, and that is an amazing thing. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with a velvety texture, and appropriate carbonation. Overall, this beer is really good. It is much improved since I had it last.

Tastes like grapefruit sculpin. Which I also do not care for a ton. Just don't really care for the addition of fruit in an IPA. I always think that's what the hops are there for. It's a bit juicier and a lot more grapefruit forward than sculpin - I'm confused why I don't like this one a ton but LOVE phantom taxi. It's a good local tap beer but I won't seek cans out again.

Excited when I saw this one in cans been wanting to try more from these guys, packaging is nice. looking too.

S: hops present but not strong, there is an aroma of herbalyness that im not sure is coming from a malt or a hop...? Perhaps an additive, very peculiar. I wouldnt say "citrus" notes are comming out in the aroma.

T: Identical to aroma, still not picking where that aroma and off flavor is coming from, but it's not too pleasant, not bad either just not floating my boat i guess. There are subtle cirus notes here but not one im used to, more like lemon/limey ones, also not floating the old boat. The Malton this one is a little much in my opinion for an ipa tastes more like a pale ale to me with a higher abv
Also I'm not liking the most feel on this one a little too much carbonation. Overall a pretty "meh" beer. The more i drink the less i like...

Tried again fresh, apparently last batch was infected, which makes me feel great about my palate/perception and sniffer! Better than it was last time but my rating will only go up to a 3 from a 2.75. The off flavors are gone but there is still not enogh cirusy pop that im looking for in a great citrus ipa. Most of my dissapointments from any style of a beer come from the mis-labeling of a style, if you say your beer is a certain style you had BETTER hit it on the head!! Im NOT saying this beer isnt "citrusy" but certainly not enough to include that in the name, but the big "c" word is thrown around FAR too much these days with IPAS. Can peole come up with words OTHER THAN "CITRUS" and "GRAPEFRUIT" to decribe a beer...?!?

On tap at Stouts Pub. Dark yellow and orange in color, had a light, head. Had a nice citrusy smell, definite grapefruit. Nicely carbonate, a middle of the road bitterness, not overdone, good balance. Very enjoyable beer if you're looking for some bitterness but not overdone.

Pours brilliant gold Spicy, floral, herbal hop nose. Some light biscuit provides the backbone for the clean hop flavors. Initial malty light fruit (pear) sweetness dries out on the finish with a lingering, herbal bitterness. Medium body and carbonation.

On tap at the brewery.

Appearance: Hazy pale/orangey hue. Off-white head.

Aroma: Heavy dose of citrus.

Taste: A lot of hop character competing for dominance all while supplying moderate bitterness and a simple malt backing. Flavors of citrus, pine, and some spice. Good depth of flavor.

Mouthfeel: Medium in body with average carbonation for the style. Good drinkability.

Final Thoughts: Definitely my go-to when I'm at the taproom. Varies a bit each time, sometimes phenomenal and sometimes just average. Would I drink it again? Yep.
