On-tap at the source, on to the beer:
Light yellow colored and topped with a half-inch of semi-creamy head on top. Good head retention too. The clean hoppy nose is a turn-on for this guy. This saison smells grassy, with cantaloupe and honeydew notes in the background, sprinkled with a dusting of vague spice. Based on the aroma, I knew I was running into something unique and good. Costa West is slightly tart at the base, but hoppy and rustic flavors are the anchors of this beer. There's a crescendo of grassy and honeydew flavors which seems to build. A little peppery as well. Modest bitterness is leftover in the aftertaste. The beer is light bodied, with gentle bubbles running around.
Costa West is a well-done hoppy saison. Or Belgian Session IPA. Whatver, it's good.
