From a one-day old crowler to a nonic glass. Reviewed from notes dated August 9, 2017.
A-The beer pours from the crowler with a lot of head, like three fingers of dense, grey colored foam. Retention is pretty good too. The beer underneath is mostly clear with just a hint of cloudiness to obscure the amber brown hue. A few bubbles float up the glass.
S-The aroma is very nutty, like plain peanuts and pecans to me. I sniff some raisin and brown sugar sweetness, and there is a bit of barley husk smell that balances the sweetness.
T-The taste is also nutty; its not sweet or salty or "peanutty," but there is a strong flavor that suggests a bowl of mixed nuts. Weird, but not bad. I also taste a bit more brown sugar, some barley grain, and a hint of balancing hop spiciness.
M-The body is medium in heft and the beer is very drinkable. The carbonation is fine on my palate and the overall feeling is almost creamy.
O-I have been enjoying the German styles recently and this is another good one from Zwei. The nutty flavor is a little odd, but it does not detract from what I think is a pretty decent dunkel.
