Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a one finger dark khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, bourbon, cocoa and coffee with a hint of vanilla. Flavor is dark toasted malt with light charr, cocoa, bourbon, mild maple syrup; finishes with charry coffee and some woody oak. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Lives up to its woodworker name with some clear woody flavor in the finish. Like the base Pancake House, the maple syrup is quite subdued, which is surprising with that name. That's not really a problem for this barreled stout, because there is plenty going on. Similar to the base stout, there is nice synergy between the char in the toasted malt and the coffee component. The flavor starts out with bourbon dominant, but cocoa, coffee and the malt char develop into a nice finish. Oddly not very reminiscent of pancakes, but a quite pleasant and flavorful dark barreled stout. Nicely done.
