16-ounce can purchased at John's Marketplace in Beaverton, OR. Date stamp reads "09/17/25". Enjoyed in a nonic half-pint glass.
The 2025 version features fresh Sterling hops from Goschie Farms, Silverton, OR.
Look:
The beer pours a very hazy corn yellow, with a loose head of warm white foam which wastes no time retreating to a mottled skin and solid collar. The foam leaves rings of lacing after every sip.
Smell:
The nose consists of bready malt, grassy hops, a spicy noble hop character, and vivid citrus (mostly lemon with a splash of orange) with a slightly minty herbal note. Quite pleasant.
Taste:
The flavor follows the nose, starting with nice bready malt that's more dry than sweet. Spicy hops follow with a sprinkle of lemon zest around the edges. Mild grassy/floral notes linger underneath. The aftertaste is malty with a bit of the citrus-mint combo from the nose.
Feel:
Light body with moderate carbonation that prompts exceptional fresh hop burps. Hop burn is a bit aggressive, but not enough to hurt the beer much.
Overall:
Nice beer, and generally well balanced even if the fresh Sterling hops come in a bit hot at the end. I haven't tried the original non-fresh-hop version of this beer, which is called Gold Water, but I look forward to changing that soon. Maybe even side-by-side with this beer.
