Brewed in collaboration with our friends from Engine House 9 in Tacoma with Pilsner, Munich and dark specialty malts. Hopped with Hallertau and Tettnang. This strong German Alt-style beer went under an extended cool fermentation with our favorite Kolsch yeast. After a period lagering, it was transferred into former Midnight Still bourbon barrels and left to age for 2 months.

Served in 12oz tulip. Poured a very attractive dark brown color with some reddish tint at the edges, with 1/3 inch of tan head that had very low retention and almost no lacing.
The aroma was dominated, as expected, by sweet malts with a low grain component. A slight bit of chocolate malt was also apparent in the nose.
Fairly similar on the tongue, with some roast added, a d the chocolate being a bit bolder.
The body was a touch on the light side of medium, smooth, and had a semi-sweet finish.
Drinkability was very good, I could easily drink more of these.
Overall, a very nice brew that's worth your time. Even if a double strong Altbier is something of a conundrum.

I don't think I've ever had a "Doppelsticke" so I don't have a benchmark in mind. I've read that this is sort of a German barleywine.
The look is dark, with minimal head. The smell is dark malts and a little vanilla. The taste is more complex, with some leathery notes, vanilla, light bourbon and wood. It's only slightly sweet.
Interesting beer, and well worth a try. On tap at The Beer Junction.

On tap at Engine house number 9 the other day (which I guess makes sense).
The beer pours a darkish brown color with pretty good head retention and lacing. On the nose, this is a serious doppelbock (which is what it's listed as on the menu). There is noticeable dark chocolate, with some attractive underlying vanilla, light bourbon and maybe a hint of cherry. The flavor profile replicates the nose in this impressive beer, but what really stood out, was the finish on this bad boy. Many doppels start out well, but then the finish is light and a bit watery. Not this beer. Also, while the beer was fairly street, that sweetness never seemed excessive or overwhelming. Mouthful is fairly full with a long finish, and a hint of licorice. Alcohol is very well integrated into the flavor profile, though it's obvious the abv. is up there a bit.
Very impressive, and certainly one of the best domestic doppelbocks I've ever had the chance to sample.

Appearance: Arrives coffee colored with a modest beige head; splotches of lacing
Smell: Brown bread, caramel and Bourbon
Taste: Brown bread forward with caramel and Bourbon tones developing; sarsaparilla through the middle, with a classic Doppelsticke finish
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation
Overall: One of the more interesting things I have come across in quite a while
