2022 vintage (released on 1/7/2023); consumed on 3/10/2023
Pours a viscous, stark midnight-black body forming a frothy few fingers of pale mocha foam, quickly fading to a hissing effervescence stabbing at a blank void with a thin, creamy collar and no lacing holding to the walls of the glass.
Aromas of peanut butter fudge and accenting malted milk balls open, with more chunky, unsalted peanut butter easing to dark chocolate and a tinge of smoke over the middle as dark cherry and oaky bourbon fade through the back end.
Taste offers dark cacao and a clever bourbon undertone, with a nutty peanut inflection meeting a tinge of smoke over the mid-palate into leather and barrel tannins lingering through dark cherry on the back end.
Mouthfeel shows a slick medium body and minimal accompanying carbonation, leaving slight barrel tannins to cut stickiness over the mid-palate as a vague drying eases to subtle warmth through the finish.
Attenuated richness evanesces into barrel and base, invoking an airy roast with sweeter trends; exceptional restraint in a welcomingly passive sweeter stout.
