Chonk Sundae Sour: Cherry Marshmellow and Chocolate
Drekker Brewery
Date: 05 May 2021
My second beer in this series by Drekker, and they are what is advertised. I poured it into a pint glass; the temperature was 44 degrees. The pour created an airy and foamy pink two-fingered head with fair retention. The quick dissipation left little lacing on the glass. The color is close to macerated berries in a blender. The beer has an appearance of a typical fruited sour.
Big chocolate and cherries aromas followed by marshmallows. Next, I smell vanilla, fruity sweetness, hints of lemon, bready, and ice cream. Amazes me how the beer smells like a vanilla cherry chocolate sundae with marshmallows.
Chocolate comes on strong at the beginning of the taste; then cherries, marshmallows, and vanilla weave in their way across your palate. The malt is lightly toasted and bready. The sourness is hidden behind the other goodies in the beer at, first then says hi later. Sipping this beer, I do get a green grass note and some floral at the end.
The mouthfeel is tart and somewhat sour.
The body is medium, low carbonation, and has a lasting finish.
The beer is that a Sundae Sour with other flavorings added. It is well made and fills a niche market, which I am happy to buy. A Different type of kettle sour, but worth trying once.

Ordered from Tavour, 16 ounce can, chilled and poured into a hurricane.
Look: Cherry colored, 1/4 finger size off white head that dissipated quickly leaving a light off white ring of foam around the glass and some fruit puree as we drank.
Smell: Cherry up front, followed by chocolate and heavy marshmallow that hangs while it warmed.
Taste: Big cherry up front, followed by marshmellow and chocolate that mesh together nicely. Slightly sour on the back palate. For a >7% ABV no booze and no bitter or hop notes. Trailing ends are marshmallow and vanilla. The Berliner base lingers on the very back, nice light malty note that make this crushable.
Feel: Medium body, nice tickle of carbonation and sour notes that help the drinkability. Not syrupy but thick enough to qualify as a smoothy style.
Overall, this is a nice addition to the Drekker smoothy Berliner style ale. We love Drekker creativity and this one is exactly as advertised. I could slam one or two of these on a hot day (its like 115 degrees outside so yeah).
Cheers!

Drekker Chonk Sundae Sour Cherry/Marshmallow/Chocolate, 7.2% ABV. Pours thick and murky red, with a half-finger off-white head that left puree residue. Nose is cherry, chocolate, and marshmallow/vanilla. Taste is cherry, with chocolate and vanilla hiding behind it, moderately tart, moderately sweet. Excellent thick and creamy mouthfeel, overall outstanding.

Pours a dense black cherry color with a pink raspberry head. Smell is fresh cherries and chocolate . Taste follows nose fresh tart cherries with creamy chocolate finish. Mouth feel is fresh fruited with cherries with slight tartness ,so drinkable, Drekker always delivers as advertised with fruit and adjuncts very good.
