Heaps is a Coconut Milk Stout brewed with a big, smooth, chocolatey malt bill with a chef's kiss of lactose to pump up that body and then it was conditioned on cacao nibs and heaps on heaps of toasted coconut! Heaps, we tell ya! ⠀

After inventorying my cellar, I came across a few beers that made me scratch my head as to why I cellared this. A couple of those were an enormous surprise and were delicious. A few were given to me; honestly, they do not sound appealing. I don't know why I held onto this beer for two years; it sounds like a mounds bar in a can. I still have a few more to get out and down on paper. Hopefully, the trend continues, and this is good.
I am using a pint glass and serving the beer at 44 degrees. Prying the tab, a lovely carbonation hiss emerges. The pour created an airy, foamy, two-fingered head, light tan head with average retention. The somewhat slow dissipation left no lacing on the glass. The beer's color charts at SRM 34 dark brown, nearly black, and opaque. The appearance of the beer is average for this style.
Nosing the glass, I smell dark chocolate, coconut, raisins, burnt sugar, light char, malty sweetness, and cream. Smelling the glass again, I notice caramel, toffee, toasted bread, coffee, and earthiness. It does not smell like a Mounds bar but is reasonably close; the chocolate is darker and less waxy.
The first sip starts with cheap dark chocolate and coconut from the grocery store. Sipping the beer again, I tasted toasted bread, vanilla, caramel, molasses, light char, cream, earthiness, burnt sugar, and malty sweetness. The beer is less sweet than I would have anticipated, which is a bonus for me; I'm not too fond of cloyingly sweet beers.
The mouthfeel is thin, finishing, bitter, and dry. The body is medium and has medium carbonation.
The sip was different from what I anticipated. The body is smoother and creamier than expected from this beer style. The coconut flavor diminishes, and the chocolate is more of a thought. I have sipped beers without chocolate, and they have more flavor. Overall, it's not one of my favorites from Drekker.

I lived in ND for 3 years, and I’ve been excited to see Drekker slowly creep towards Chicago over the past couple of years
L: near black with a tall and foamy khaki head
S: sweet; lactose, coconut, cacao, caramel, candy bar
T: sweet & rich; heaps of toasted coconut & chocolate laced with lactose; caramelized grain, vanilla, oats, and modest earthy hops
F: medium-to-full body, ample carbonation, sweet beginning to end
O: good if you like your stout sweet

16oz can from Tavour. Black pour with a dissipating beige head. Sweet, dark chocolaty aroma, roasty malts, light coconut. Taste leans more on the chocolate than the coconut. Sweet, smooth

Pours out a dark brown with some translucence. Finger and a half of light sand colored head. Great looking on the pour.
Nose is mild chocolate, slight roasted malt, the coconut is faint. It doesn't really remind one of Mounds or candy in general, but more of baked goods. Baked bread with coconut and perhaps ribbons of chocolate running through it. Not a strong nose, but a pleasant one.
Taste shows a little more of the roasted malt, but other than that very similar to the nose. Chocolate sweetness, coconut nuttiness. Not too sweet, some bitterness.
Mouthfeel is smooth but a little thin. Carbonation is surprisingly high for a stout. Not necessarily vibrant but a good amount of bubbles dance on the palate.
Overall, not too bad. Perhaps a little high ABV for a session stout, but easy drinking and of course I'm always down for the coconut thrown in.

Drekker Heaps Coconut Milk Stout, 7% ABV. Pours dark black with a 1.5 finger medium brown head that left spotty lacing. Nose is coconut and strong cocoa. Taste follows, strong chocolate, moderately sweet, faintly bitter. Decent mouthfeel, though a bit watery, and negligible carbonation. Overall, an outstanding cocoa beer, for a coconut beer.
