Mass Shadow was brewed with oats & spelt, then hopped with our hand-selected Citra and HBC 638, a new experimental hop, for some serious tropical fruit flavor & aroma with notes of tart pineapple, creamy strawberry, and over-ripe cantaloupe.

Drekker Mass Shadow NEIPA, 7% ABV. Pours hazy orange with a 2+ finger white head that left real nice lacing. Nose is not much. Taste is slight citrus, perhaps some grapefruit, slightly sweet, moderately bitter. Dry mouthfeel, overall very good.

Canned 2/4/24 (5 weeks ago)
Appearance: Pours a completely cloudy (10% clarity) light yellow color with a strong white head. SRM of7. (4.00)
Aroma: Strong of orange, tangerine, peach, some strawberries. (4.00)
Flavor: Strong orange citrus, cantaloupe, tangerine, and pineapple. Smooth. ( 3.75)
Feel: Medium-body, strong carbonation. Clean mildly tart finish. (3.75)
Compared to Elm Creek Virtual Skyline 3/2024 Pours lighter, similar aromas and head. More tart pineapple and citrus, Less grape and tropical peach notes.
Overall: Has Citra plus HBC 638, which needs a name update. Has cantaloue and strawberry notes. I don't as much of that as I get tart pineapple. Pretty good, I'd say fairly average at best for Drekker. (Rating: 3.88)

Can. White head with lace. Hazy yellow gold color.
Fairly bitter and earthy/green. Hop powder. Melon, honeydew, papaya, and mango, juicy, tropical, but still green. Solid.

Very "new englandy" .... Citra hops very apparent and perhaps a bit too sweet for me .... Still the quality is apparent and I love finding a good beer from a far away land

I think Krampus may come for me tomorrow - no, wait, I don't think it counts for old farts like me. But I've been naughty and spoiled. Spoiled ever since my main brew dealer got his license back (after moving), now I am taking for granted amazing, fresh brews like this one.
It pours yellow and cloudy with really fine head and lacing. The usual stench of the hazy IPA (I don't use the term New England) is replaced with a less offensive hop stank, nice. The flavor is full of that juicy hoppy malty fullness that make this an excellent style. My sample isn't very cold (but that's OK, it's -7F outside, visiting here in Columbus, Ohio) and flavors are all over this thing. That juiciness lingers on the tongue nicely. Mass Shadow would be OK for foods that can hold their own - I have a tast for fish, but I am pretty sure I won't be getting any today. Still, this is kind of too good to share with food, but it is giving me an appetite for something.
Recommended. This may not be the greatest Drekker I've had (I really love the Chink and Braaaains series) or even the greatest Drekker hazy IPA, but it is great. Maybe this would go with a taste of liquor. Yup, it worked with sips of Longbranch. I am being naughty again. Please, Mr. Krampus, I'll share with you!
