It's one of my favorite kettle sours before I crest 2200 beers. I am using a tulip glass and serving the beer at 44 degrees. The pour created a frothy, one-fingered, pinkish head with poor retention. The quick dissipation left bits of fruit on the glass. The color is pinkish-red and opaque, with lots of fruit floating within. The appearance is average for this style.
When I sniff the glass, I smell grapefruit, tart cherries, and berries. There is a lot of fruity sweetness. Other aromas are vanilla, lactose, earthy, floral, and lightly toasted malts. This is a straightforward, simple, fruity kettle sour with a touch of sourness.
Oh wow, the tart, juicy cherries mingle with a succulent grapefruit. The tartness of both fruits does not clash, but they mingle like best friends. The malt profile is lightly toasted with some bread notes. Other flavors are earthy, lactose, vanilla, light sourness, and fruity sweetness.
The mouthfeel is tarty with some sourness finishing sweet but tannic. The body is chewy and has medium carbonation.
This is a wonderful fruit combination, probably in my top three of this series. I love how the cherries and grapefruit work well and are balanced. It is a lovely beer for this damp Idaho night.
