Thick, black with a slight copper foam when poured. You can tell it will be rich and syrupy.
Smell is sweet, dark chocolate. A little anise. I also smell the bourbon.
Taste does not live up to the smell. It definitely has the strength of BA imperial stout - the bourbon is there. There is a slight tanginess, almost metallic flavor that I am picking up. It brings a sort of brightness to the flavor of the beer that I did not expect. Unfortunately, it is the most prominent flavor, detracting from the rest.
Mouthfeel is thick and smooth, following the look as you would expect.
Overall, a good beer with great look, smell and feel, that falls just short of that greatness with the flavor.
