Running around Richmond some, this late morning now early afternoon set out finds us doing hard time in SOFA. The walk over from the biscuit place was arduous, but we braved it stopping in the shady spots wherever and whenever possible. (Evil) Davo ditched us to drop into a place on the corner he said ‘looked cool’, but we know it was just to cry and recoup his body temperature. A small standalone bricky place, down on Robinson where things are happening…

Enter through the side (as opposed to burrowing in from underneath or dropping in through the roof). A small ‘L’ shaped slat wood topped laminated bar, with a 2 tone plank base, & a piping foot rail on the outer wall. Seating for 6 on steel framed high wooden chairs for the sitting on. 16 tap row on the barback brick wall center over a slight counter. A single shelf above holds growlers and some bottles & cans, while tulips, snifts, & stems dangle from the underside. Vertical units with shelving to both sides with glassware and cupboardiness below.

It’s a 2 room deal. This room is mostly brick, save the burgundy painted wall to the rear with dead soldier bottles lining the top, and the large garage door wall of windows over the front open when not too warm or cold. Concrete floors, and a pressed tin ceiling painted gold with crown molding. Drop wood framed single bulb lighting. Angled bar counter piece in the front corner and 2 hightops adjacent. Light brewery tin decor and a cool wooden Rodenbach sign that I’m sure you’ll agree I should own. Mounted tap board lists brewery, beer, ABV, price by the pint unless indicated otherwise, and growler pricing, half or whole. Also a dozen+ wines by the bottle/glass board and an empty events board.

Side room holds mostly green painted walls with the front being another garage door wall of windows. More dead soldier bottles lining the room above the sill 3 sides around. Pieced plank wood floors, spinny fans & drop bulb lighting. 10 tables there and a meat/cheese showcase to the rear. Draft board, bottles board, & an eats board.

16 taps. Nearly half of them are Virginia offerings (Precarious Threshold of Decency, Alewerks Shorty Time IPA, Benchtop Hazing Face, Triple Crossing Waxing Poetic & Night Call, Three Notch’d Creaky Oak, Virginia Beer Co Rob Your Head Imperial Red), and the other half a mix of elsewhere American craft (Maine A Tiny Beautiful Something, Kent Falls Dekkera, TRVE Cursed, Lagunitas IPA), import (Weihenstephaner/Sierra Nevada Braupakt, Fruh Kolsch, Coniston Bluebird Bitter, Hacker Pschorr Oktoberfest), and a sole cider (Argus Cidery Apple Bomb). I drank the Coniston Bluebird Bitter (because I’m no damn fool) & Fruh Kolsch (because more of the same). So much for sampling the local wares this day.

Unit behind me holds mostly wine & cider. I see you there, (Domaine Dupont) Pommeau. Nuts, chips, N/A’s, shirts, hats, & beer books, too. And a bottle cooler alongside with chilled goods. Roughly a dozen and a half bottles. Nice to see Threes Vliet & Grimm Apricot Pop so far from home (although really, I suppose they’re just working their way down the coast). (Lovely) Orval runs a cool $8, which is probably why she’s sold out. Hey, what’s up with you, $15 Oud Beersel bottles? And oh, hello, Cuvee Jacobin Rouge, good to see you, you look good, we should hang out. De Ranke XX, call me.

Tunes, yeah… Stones, Zeppelin, Allmans, Clapton, Blind Faith. I could do some serious time here. Light foodings from the next room’s kitchen; sandwiches, panini, cheese & meat board, and snacks. Nice, but I’m still biscuit crippled. Jamestending this afternoon, knows his craft. Lunchtime drinking hours with the regulars. One of them brought in 4 partially completed crossword puzzles for us to help with. Good house!

The best beer list you're going to find downtown. Only food I tried was the charcuterie plate, but enjoyed it, will definitely be back sooner than later

Nice spot. Was crowded on a Friday night for the Stone pub crawl. Was a bit tough to communicate with the servers. Standing room only. Handful of nice taps - definitely not tough to find a quality brew. But it's not an overly excellent place when others like The Answer in town.

I didn't eat here or have wine, so I'm writing specifically about grabbing a couple beers on a Friday night.

V - A neat little place just off the beaten path of you will, but only just and in a good way. It is by no means out of my way to go there but I rather enjoy it standing alone and not directly next door to an establishment teaming with freshly minted 21 year olds. When you walk through the door you know you are an adult in a place you can enjoy an adults beer. The place is cool, cozy, and laid back.

Q - uality is what flows from the taps.

S - Spot on. From the moment my group of five walked through the door the bartender greeted and welcomed us. As we walked to stand view the tap list, all of the beers were explained to us and any questions were answered. Our glass stayed full and our minds at ease.

S - There were, if I remember correctly, Sixteen beers on tap. All of which were unique and I myself have not seen them elsewhere. Pretty killer.

F - I was only there for drinks after dinner but if the food is anything like the beers you will be just fine.
