I don't believe I've ever, or if I have it has only been done a few occasions, compared one beer to another in a review but I can't help myself.
In a short time span, I was not only able to try this brewery's singel but also buy another local (almost, actually, since it's in Richmond) brewery's singel, the much bally-hooed Hardywood and their creatively named "Singel".
This one trumps that one hands down, and Hardywood makes a decent singel - if you're into that beer then come down to this brewery and give their brew a try.
Pours a cloudy orangish gold with one finger head that dies quick and leaves little lace patches.
The aroma balances candi sugar and yeast along with a sharp, lemony citric and spicy zest.
Smooth, fluffy, this fuller bodied beer goes down easy with some sweetness thanks to both yeast and sugary sweetness (not much of a tropical fruit sweetness vibe but more overly sugary sweet which I could be wrong about but I like).
Balance is maintained and what I really like about this beer is the crisp, citric sharpness on the backend but also noticeable in body of beer that gives off this not too sharp or pungent citric/lemon/orange taste.
A well-crafted Belgian style ale that comes pretty close to the unique brewing processes and results from Belgian brewers.
