Pleasure House Brewing "Beware The Ides Biere De Mars"
$9 / 32 fl. oz. crowler, 2 days old at tasting
Look: Slightly hazy golden-orange body beneath a finger thick head of pillowy white foam that steadily settles into a creamy collar, leaving behind spots and streaks of lace.
Smell: The Belgian yeast is quite clear over a sweetish malt base delivering earthy, mineralish, peppery and spicy notes (clove, something like cinnamon) as well as a dried apricot fruitiness.
Taste: As the aroma suggests, it's a little sweetish with a maltiness that suggests rock candy and a drizzle of honey, but the stiff bitterness, peppery spice, light spritz of alcohol, and mineral character of the yeast have no problem bringing it to a dry finish. Some herbal and leafy hops linger with residual bitterness.
Feel: Medium bodied with a dextrinous side, and crisp with a fine-bubbled, standard to slightly elevated carbonation.
Overall: An absolute pleasure: rich but not sweetish, fairly complex, and very well balanced and rounded!
